Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the three categories and comparing the five cities. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical, simply listing percentages city by city rather than highlighting significant trends or making insightful comparisons. For instance, while you mention the highest and lowest figures, the report lacks a clear overview or a summary of the most striking differences. To reach a higher band, ensure you group data logically and provide a clear 'overview' paragraph that synthesizes the main trends, such as noting that Melbourne and Hobart consistently show higher engagement across categories compared to other cities.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'while' and 'the percentage of' are used frequently, making the flow feel somewhat mechanical. There is a lack of variety in linking words to connect ideas between sentences and paragraphs. To improve, try using a wider range of transition signals such as 'In contrast,' 'Conversely,' or 'Similarly' to better demonstrate the relationship between the data points in different cities.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely heavily on basic terms like 'prefer' and 'percentage'. There are also some awkward phrasings, such as 'the given data statics' (should be 'statistics') and 'the same goes for Adelaide'. To improve, incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion,' 'figure,' 'witnessed,' or 'accounted for.' Additionally, ensure you use accurate terminology when describing trends to avoid repetitive sentence structures.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains several grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with article usage (e.g., 'on x-axis' should be 'on the x-axis'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence fragments (e.g., '61%, 55% are for sydney and Brisbane respectively'). The sentence structures are mostly simple or repetitive, with limited use of complex sentences. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic errors like capitalization of proper nouns (Sydney, Brisbane) and ensure that every sentence has a clear subject and verb. Increasing the use of complex structures would also help demonstrate better grammatical control.
