Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarize the data but fails to provide a clear overview or accurately report the main features. The introduction is poorly phrased, and the body paragraphs lack precision. For instance, the statement that the trend continues in every city is inaccurate, as the data shows significant variations in percentages across the five cities. Furthermore, the report lacks a clear comparison of the three categories (cafe, instant, fresh) across all locations. The information is presented in a fragmented way, making it difficult for the reader to grasp the key trends or differences between the cities. To improve, focus on identifying the highest and lowest values and grouping the data logically.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear structure. The paragraphs are not well-defined, and the progression of ideas is disjointed. While some cohesive devices like 'moreover' and 'however' are used, they are often placed incorrectly or used to connect unrelated ideas. The referencing is also unclear; for example, the phrase 'in last but not least' is misused and does not function as a logical transition. The lack of proper paragraphing and the repetitive nature of the sentence structures hinder the flow of the response, making it difficult to follow the comparison between the cities.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. The student relies heavily on basic phrasing such as 'bought instant coffee' and 'went to cafe', which are repeated throughout the text. There are also errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'melbourne' (capitalization), 'coffe' (spelling), and 'continous' (spelling). The use of 'bar of residents' is an incorrect collocation and does not convey the intended meaning. To reach a higher band, the student should aim to use a wider range of synonyms and more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'consumption', and 'varied'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with article usage (e.g., 'in cafe', 'in last 4 weeks'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence construction. Many sentences are run-on or lack necessary punctuation, such as the opening sentence which is a long, unpunctuated string. The range of structures is limited to simple sentences, and attempts at more complex structures are often faulty or unclear. Significant attention is needed regarding basic sentence formation, capitalization of proper nouns, and consistent use of articles to improve clarity and accuracy.
