Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. Because the text is incomplete and stops mid-sentence, it fails to provide a full overview or report on all the data presented in the chart. While the introduction attempts to paraphrase the prompt, the body paragraphs are underdeveloped and do not cover the data for all five cities or all categories. To improve, you must ensure you complete the task by describing all key features and trends, ensuring the response is of sufficient length to allow for a full analysis of the data provided.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response shows a basic attempt at paragraphing, with an introduction and an overview. However, the abrupt ending makes it difficult to assess the overall logical progression. Cohesive devices are used in a limited way, such as 'Overall,' 'On the other hand,' and 'Whereas,' but these are somewhat mechanical. Because the response is incomplete, the flow of information is disrupted. To improve, focus on structuring your response with a clear introduction, a well-developed overview, and distinct body paragraphs that group data logically, ensuring that each sentence connects smoothly to the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision expected at higher bands. You used some relevant terms like 'histogram' (though 'bar chart' would be more accurate) and 'residents,' but there are errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'caffe' instead of 'café' and 'different five Australian cities' which is phrased awkwardly. The range is limited by the brevity of the text. To improve, aim to use more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion,' 'fluctuated,' or 'predominant,' and ensure you check your spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are noticeable errors. For example, 'individual's coffee tea buying' lacks proper conjunctions, and 'highest number of percentage' is grammatically incorrect. There are also issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequent errors and the incomplete nature of the sentences hinder the overall quality. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, and practice writing complete, error-free complex sentences to demonstrate better control over your grammar.
