Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the data, including the three categories across five cities. However, the analysis is somewhat inconsistent. While you identify the general trends, the grouping of cities is slightly confusing; for instance, you mention Sydney, Melbourne, and Hobart together, but the data for these cities varies significantly in the chart. The overview is present but could be more precise in highlighting the most striking differences. To improve, ensure that comparisons are clearly linked to specific data points rather than generalizing across cities that show different patterns. The report is accurate in its selection of key features but lacks the depth required for a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is organized into a logical structure with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'Lastly' are used to guide the reader through the information. However, the progression of ideas within the body paragraphs is occasionally mechanical. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when grouping cities together, which makes it difficult for the reader to follow which specific data point belongs to which city. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that each cohesive device serves a clear logical purpose would enhance the coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'illustrates', 'consume', 'on-site', and 'downward trend'. There are some instances of slightly awkward phrasing, such as 'slightly near 55 percent' or 'touches the number 50', which are not standard academic collocations. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning, it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more varied and precise reporting verbs and adverbs to describe the trends, and ensure that your collocations are natural and appropriate for a formal report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'the fresh coffee that has been purchased is less than instant coffee' (which compares a noun to a category) and inconsistent punctuation around commas. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and refining the use of complex structures to ensure they are error-free. Pay closer attention to the accuracy of your comparative structures to ensure they are logically sound.
