Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response successfully identifies the main features of the chart and makes relevant comparisons between the five cities. You have clearly highlighted the trends for fresh coffee, instant coffee, and cafe visits. However, the overview is slightly weak; while you mention the most popular trends, the comparison between cities could be more integrated. The data reporting is generally accurate, though there are some minor inconsistencies in the figures cited (e.g., the data for Brisbane and Adelaide). To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview provides a more comprehensive summary of the key differences and similarities across all categories rather than just listing trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'In addition', and 'Finally' to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by mechanical phrasing and some awkward transitions. For instance, the sentence 'To begin with data comparison in sysdney' lacks a smooth lead-in. Referencing is generally clear, but the paragraphing could be improved by ensuring that each paragraph focuses on a distinct aspect of the data to avoid repetitive structures. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear enough to follow without difficulty.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information, using terms like 'percentage', 'purchased', and 'trend'. However, there are several spelling errors ('Sysdney', 'Melboure', 'caoffee') and some awkward word choices, such as 'showed similarly pattern' instead of 'showed a similar pattern'. The vocabulary is functional but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and ensure accurate spelling of key terms. The range is adequate for the task but does not show a high level of flexibility or control over less common lexical items.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'The bar chart illustrate' (subject-verb agreement), 'were who bought' (redundant phrasing), and 'making cafe visit the highest amount the five cities' (preposition and article usage). While these errors do not prevent the meaning from being understood, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed accurately. Increasing the number of error-free sentences will significantly improve your score in this criterion.
