Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the chart, such as the trends in fresh coffee, instant coffee, and cafe visits across the five cities. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and contains inaccuracies. For instance, the claim that 'going abroad in cafe' is the highest is confusingly phrased, and the data interpretation is occasionally imprecise. While you have selected key features, the comparison between cities could be more systematic. To improve, ensure that your data points are accurate and that you clearly distinguish between the three categories provided in the prompt, rather than grouping them in a way that obscures the specific findings for each city.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into three paragraphs, which is a standard structure. However, the flow of ideas is often hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. For example, the use of 'Eventually' to start the third paragraph is inappropriate for a summary task. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often repetitive or incorrectly applied, such as 'On the other hand to bought instant coffee'. The progression of information is somewhat disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the cities smoothly. More varied and precise linking words would improve the logical flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, relying heavily on the words provided in the prompt. There are several instances of awkward word choice and incorrect collocations, such as 'less in percentage to buying' and 'went to cafe or shop is highest in the percentage'. The phrase 'going abroad in cafe' is particularly problematic as it does not accurately reflect the data provided. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary to describe trends and comparisons, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', or 'predominant', while ensuring that your word choices are contextually appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'all five cities has' and 'Sydney, Melbourne and Hobart has reached'. Additionally, sentence structures are often simplistic or incorrectly constructed, such as 'in Sydney and Melbourne to buying fresh coffee in between 40 to 45 percent'. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the punctuation is inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree, and practicing the correct use of prepositions when describing data trends.
