Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the task by identifying the main features of the survey. However, the analysis is incomplete. You have provided data for Sydney, Melbourne, and Hobart, but you have completely omitted the data for Brisbane and Adelaide, which are clearly visible in the chart. Furthermore, the summary lacks a clear overview of the trends; you have simply listed figures without comparing them effectively. To improve, ensure you cover all categories provided in the prompt and group information logically to highlight key similarities and differences across all five cities rather than listing them city by city.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the flow of ideas is somewhat mechanical. The use of cohesive devices is limited and occasionally repetitive (e.g., 'first starting from', 'in conclusion'). The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as when you refer to '3 bar graph noted' without clearly defining the categories in a professional manner. The progression of ideas is hindered by the lack of a clear overview and the omission of two cities, which disrupts the logical flow of the report. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring a consistent structure will help improve your score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'bought', 'gone', and 'people'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as '62% gone at cafe' and '63% gone for cafe', which are not natural expressions. You should aim to use more precise terminology related to data reporting, such as 'proportion', 'percentage', 'consumed', or 'frequented'. Additionally, there are minor errors in spelling and word form, such as 'Hobert' instead of 'Hobart'. Expanding your range of vocabulary to include more academic and descriptive terms will significantly enhance your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'The bar graph present the data about shows', 'there are 3 bar graph noted', and '43% residence who bought'. These errors involve subject-verb agreement, pluralisation, and sentence construction. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several missing capital letters at the start of sentences. To reach a higher band, you need to focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that sentences are correctly punctuated.
