Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features of the survey across the five cities. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, cohesive overview. While the key data points are mentioned, the comparison between cities is occasionally confusing, such as the statement that Melbourne and Hobart have the 'highest ratio from all other cities' without clearly distinguishing between the categories. The summary of the data is accurate, but the lack of a sophisticated synthesis of the information prevents it from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on grouping the data more logically rather than listing city by city.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often repetitive or slightly unnatural, such as 'After that' and 'Last one is'. The progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, particularly when moving between the different categories of coffee and cafe habits. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to track which data point belongs to which city. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would significantly enhance the flow of the writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There is a heavy reliance on the word 'ratio' to describe percentages, which is not always the most appropriate term. Additionally, there are several spelling errors, such as 'inn' instead of 'in', 'australian' (needs capitalization), 'coffe' instead of 'coffee', and 'caffe' instead of 'cafe'. These errors are noticeable and detract from the overall quality of the writing. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to use a wider range of synonyms for 'increase', 'decrease', and 'proportion', and pay closer attention to spelling accuracy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues like 'Melbourne and Hobart has' (should be 'have') and 'the ratio of instant coffee is seems to be' (incorrect verb construction). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing capital letters for proper nouns like 'Sydney' and 'Adelaide'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors suggests a lack of control over complex structures. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and proofreading for capitalization would lead to immediate improvement.
