The chart below shows the results of a survey about people’s coffee and tea buying and drinking habits in five Australian cities.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.5)

The bar chart shows the percentage of people who bought fresh coffee, instant coffee and went to a cafe for coffee or tea in five different cities in Australia during the last four weeks.

Overall, it can be seen that going to a cafe was the most popular habit in most of the cities. On the other hand, buying fresh coffee was less common compared to the other two activities.

In Sydney, about 44% of people bought fresh coffee, while around 45% purchased instant coffee. However, going to a cafe was much more popular, at approximately 61%. Melbourne had similar results, where nearly 42% bought fresh coffee and 47% bought instant coffee. The percentage of people who went to a cafe was the highest among these cities, at about 63%.

In Brisbane, around 34% of residents bought fresh coffee, whereas 51% bought instant coffee. About 54% went to a cafe for coffee or tea. Adelaide had the lowest figure for fresh coffee, with around 33%. Instant coffee was bought by nearly 48% of people and the same percentage went to a cafe.

Finally, in Hobart, approximately 36% of people bought fresh coffee. Around 52% purchased instant coffee, while about 61% went to a cafe. Overall, people in these cities seems to prefer going to cafes and buying instant coffee more than buying fresh coffee.
