Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the data, but the analysis is incomplete. The report ends abruptly mid-sentence, failing to provide a full summary of the data presented in the chart. While you have identified some key trends, such as the popularity of cafes in Melbourne and Sydney, the lack of a complete conclusion and the unfinished final paragraph prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure you cover all categories (fresh coffee, instant coffee, and cafe visits) for all cities and provide a cohesive summary that synthesizes the information rather than just listing figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow is disrupted by the incomplete ending. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In contrast' and 'In terms of', which help to link ideas, but the overall progression is hindered by the abrupt termination of the text. Referencing is generally clear, but the lack of a final sentence or concluding thought makes the structure feel unfinished. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus and that the essay reaches a natural conclusion, avoiding abrupt stops.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it is somewhat repetitive and lacks precision. Phrases like 'the figure for bought fresh coffee is relatively little' are slightly unnatural; 'low' or 'minimal' would be more appropriate. There are also some spelling errors, such as 'Adalaide' (Adelaide) and 'proportin' (proportion). To reach a higher band, try to use a wider range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'accounted for', 'constituted', or 'a significant proportion', and pay closer attention to spelling and accurate word choice.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the higher proportions of the people prefer in going' (should be 'prefer going') and 'Adelaide had the almost same figures' (should be 'almost the same figures'). There are also issues with article usage and prepositions. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors limits the score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles to improve your accuracy.
