Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features of the survey data. You have successfully selected and reported the key trends, such as Melbourne's high cafe attendance and Sydney's preference for fresh coffee. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical, listing figures city by city rather than synthesizing the data into a more cohesive comparison. While you have highlighted the main features, the report could be improved by grouping the cities more effectively to show clear contrasts. The overview is present but could be more analytical to better reflect the overall trends across the five cities.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes repetitive or slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences feels disjointed. For example, the transition between the cafe attendance paragraph and the instant coffee paragraph is abrupt. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and some sentences lack smooth logical progression. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey the necessary information about percentages and trends. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'Aldelaide' and 'Sydeny', and some awkward phrasing like 'performed dull in the sales'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited and relies on basic descriptors. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise terminology for describing trends, such as 'the highest proportion' instead of 'maximum people', and ensure accurate spelling of the proper nouns provided in the prompt.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Melbourne accounts for maximum people', 'Sydney and Brisbane accounts for') and article usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing commas after introductory phrases. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on consistent verb agreement and proofreading for minor slips would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
