Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features and making relevant comparisons across the five cities. You successfully highlighted the trends for fresh coffee, instant coffee, and cafe visits. However, the report could be improved by ensuring the data points are presented more clearly. For instance, phrases like 'about at 33-34%' are slightly imprecise and repetitive. To reach a higher band, ensure that you synthesize the data rather than just listing figures city by city. You have a clear overview, but the selection of data could be more strategic to highlight the most significant contrasts more effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific category of the survey. You use cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Meanwhile', and 'Specifically' to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by mechanical phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. For example, the transition 'Similarly the second highest...' lacks a space after the period, and the use of 'However' is slightly overused as a transition. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring consistent punctuation would enhance the overall coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'purchasing and consumption habits' and 'percentages'. However, the vocabulary is somewhat repetitive, particularly the frequent use of 'purchases' and 'percentages'. There are also minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'fewer difference' (should be 'less difference') and 'just above than' (should be 'just above'). To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms for 'increase', 'decrease', and 'difference' to show greater lexical flexibility and precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'the percentage of purchases fresh coffee were' (subject-verb agreement error) and 'the lowest percentage of purchased instant coffee in Sydney just above than 40%' (missing verb). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods in several instances. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent punctuation will significantly improve your accuracy.
