Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all parts of the task by identifying the main trends across the five cities. You have provided a clear overview and supported it with relevant data points from the chart. However, the analysis could be more precise; for instance, stating 'nearly about 54%' is redundant and imprecise. Additionally, while you make comparisons, some of the data reporting is slightly repetitive. To reach a higher band, ensure that you group the data more effectively to highlight the most significant differences and similarities rather than listing figures city by city. Overall, the response is well-structured and addresses the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Along with this', and 'Moreover' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'the most significant ratio in both cities, Melbourne as well as Hobart', which is slightly confusing given that there are five cities mentioned. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but improving the variety of cohesive links would enhance the flow of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'significant ratio', and 'illustrates'. There are some instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'brought' instead of 'bought' in the introduction, and 'maximum percentage' which is slightly awkward in this context. You also rely on some repetitive phrasing, such as 'at about' or 'at around'. To improve, try to vary your reporting verbs and nouns, and ensure that your collocations are natural. The errors present do not impede communication, but they do limit the sophistication of the lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'most of cities' (should be 'most of the cities'), 'majority of individuals' (should be 'the majority'), and 'followed by Brisbane was at 43%' (which is a fragmented structure). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are minor slips throughout. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the data, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
