Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, reaching only 71 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While you have attempted to identify some main features, such as Melbourne's cafe popularity and Sydney's coffee preference, the analysis is severely underdeveloped. You have not provided a comprehensive summary of the data, and the lack of length prevents a full comparison of the five cities. To improve, you must ensure you cover all parts of the prompt and provide sufficient detail to meet the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is too short to demonstrate effective paragraphing or a logical progression of ideas. While there is an attempt at an overview, the structure is fragmented. The use of cohesive devices is minimal and mechanical, such as 'Additionally' and 'Oveall'. The text lacks the necessary length to establish a clear flow of information or to use referencing effectively. To improve, focus on organizing your report into a clear introduction, an overview, and two distinct body paragraphs that group related data points logically.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and contains several errors, such as 'prefering' instead of 'preferring' and 'habital' instead of 'habits'. The phrasing 'went for the cafe' is informal and imprecise for an academic report. There is a lack of variety in the language used to describe trends or comparisons. To achieve a higher band, you should work on using more precise academic vocabulary to describe data, such as 'predominantly', 'significant', or 'proportion'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors that hinder clarity, such as 'number of individual for prefering' and 'the Adelaide recorded the lowest for the cafe'. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the punctuation is inconsistent. The errors in basic subject-verb agreement and word formation are noticeable. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing articles or incorrect verb forms before attempting more complex structures.
