Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all parts of the task by reporting data for all five cities and the three categories. However, the presentation is overly mechanical. You have listed the data city by city in a repetitive, formulaic manner, which fails to highlight the 'main features' or make meaningful comparisons. For instance, you could have grouped cities with similar trends or contrasted the highest and lowest figures across the categories. The conclusion is also inaccurate, as it mentions 'growth' and 'decline', which cannot be determined from a static survey chart showing data at a single point in time. To improve, focus on synthesizing the information rather than simply transcribing the numbers.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the internal structure is repetitive. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and often redundant, such as the repeated use of 'the people who bought... in last 4 weeks'. While there is a logical progression from city to city, the lack of variety in sentence structure makes the flow feel stilted. Referencing is clear, but the overuse of the same phrasing makes the text feel like a list rather than a cohesive report. To improve, vary your transition words and use referencing (e.g., 'this figure', 'the former', 'the latter') to avoid repeating the same noun phrases.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks range and precision. You rely heavily on basic, repetitive phrases like 'the people who bought' and 'in last 4 weeks'. There is little attempt to use less common vocabulary or synonyms to describe the data. For example, instead of repeating 'around', you could use 'approximately', 'roughly', or 'in the region of'. The word choice is functional but does not demonstrate the flexibility required for a higher band. To improve, try to paraphrase the categories and use a wider variety of verbs and adverbs to describe the data points.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the complexity is often forced by the repetitive listing of data. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'In the Sydney' (incorrect article usage) and 'in last 4 week' (missing article and pluralization). While these errors do not generally impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall fluency. The sentence structures are largely repetitive, which limits the demonstration of a 'wide range' of grammar. Focusing on accurate article usage and varying sentence beginnings would significantly improve your score.
