Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task and provides a clear overview of the main trends. You have successfully identified the most popular and least popular habits across the five cities. However, the data reporting is slightly inconsistent; for instance, you state that 54% of people bought instant coffee, but then list specific city percentages that do not clearly support this aggregate figure. To reach a higher band, ensure that the data points selected are accurate and that comparisons are more precise. The overview is well-placed and effectively highlights the key differences between the categories.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs focusing on each category. The use of cohesive devices such as 'Likewise', 'In contrast', and 'Moreover' helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing could be improved by ensuring each paragraph has a more distinct focus. The referencing is generally clear, though the connection between the general statements and the specific city data could be smoother to enhance the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the data, such as 'accounted for', 'respectively', and 'alternative'. There is an attempt to use less common items, though some word choices are slightly repetitive. For example, the word 'popular' is used frequently. To improve, try to vary your descriptors for trends and proportions. There are no significant spelling errors, and the vocabulary used is appropriate for an academic report, demonstrating a good level of control over the topic-specific language required for this task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While most sentences are clear and error-free, there are occasional minor slips, such as the unnecessary capitalization of 'People' in the fourth paragraph and minor punctuation issues with spacing before commas. You have used complex structures effectively, such as 'Although buying fresh coffee was the least popular choice', which helps in achieving a higher band. To improve, focus on ensuring consistent punctuation and refining the use of articles and prepositions to achieve greater grammatical precision.
