Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the chart, such as identifying the highest and lowest categories. However, the report is somewhat mechanical, listing data for each city rather than synthesizing the information effectively. While you mention that visiting a cafe was the highest and fresh coffee bought was the lowest, the comparison between cities is underdeveloped. To reach a higher band, you should group the data more logically—for example, by comparing the cities that share similar trends rather than listing them city-by-city. Additionally, ensure all data points are accurate; you missed specific figures for some cities, which limits the depth of your analysis.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, which provides a basic structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is repetitive and sometimes mechanical, such as the frequent use of 'the percentage of...'. The progression of ideas is somewhat disjointed because the report relies on a list-like approach rather than linking the data points through meaningful comparisons. Paragraphing is present, but the internal flow within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and referencing techniques to avoid the repetitive sentence structures.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely heavily on repeating the phrase 'the percentage of... bought', which makes the writing feel monotonous. There are also minor errors in word choice and form, such as 'the given chart illustrate' (should be 'illustrates') and 'where as' (should be 'whereas'). To improve, try to incorporate synonyms for 'percentage' (e.g., 'proportion', 'figure') and use more descriptive verbs to report the data, such as 'accounted for', 'represented', or 'peaked at'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For instance, subject-verb agreement issues like 'chart illustrate' and 'percentage... was same' (should be 'the same'). There are also preposition errors, such as 'at Sydney' (should be 'in Sydney') and 'from all the perspective' (should be 'from all perspectives'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic agreement and preposition usage.
