Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task and provides a clear overview of the main features. You have successfully identified the key trends, such as the popularity of café visits in Sydney, Melbourne, and Hobart versus instant coffee in Brisbane and Adelaide. However, the analysis could be improved by making more direct comparisons between the cities rather than just listing data for each one. For instance, noting that fresh coffee was consistently the least popular option across all five cities is a good analytical step, but the report would benefit from more synthesis of the data to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for the cities, and a concluding overview. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', 'On the other hand', and 'Finally' to guide the reader. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes slightly mechanical, and the referencing could be smoother. For example, the transition between the data points in the Brisbane and Adelaide paragraph is a bit abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that the progression of ideas feels more natural would enhance the coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'illustrate', 'purchased', and 'proffered'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'young generation' (which is not supported by the prompt) and 'dink' (a typo for 'drink'). Additionally, the phrase 'proffered option' is used incorrectly; 'preferred' would be the correct term. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to data trends, such as 'predominant', 'marginal', or 'a significant proportion', and ensure careful proofreading to avoid minor spelling errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'Melbourne showed a similar patterns' (should be 'pattern'), 'people choose to according to their taste' (awkward phrasing), and '63% visits to a coffee or tea' (missing verb/preposition). There are also issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement throughout the text. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on consistent verb tense usage and subject-verb agreement will help improve your accuracy.
