Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the chart and made relevant comparisons between the five cities. You covered all three categories (fresh coffee, instant coffee, and cafe visits). However, the report lacks precision in data reporting. For instance, you mention 'more than 40%' for Sydney and Melbourne, but the chart shows specific figures that could be more accurately described. Additionally, the comparison between cities is sometimes vague, such as 'did not buy as such,' which is not clear. To improve, ensure you include specific data points to support your observations and avoid overly general statements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific categories. You use some cohesive devices like 'Overall,' 'Meanwhile,' and 'Furthermore' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel abrupt. For example, the jump from discussing fresh coffee to instant coffee could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, but the structure of the final paragraph is slightly repetitive. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring a more natural progression between sentences would enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'consumption,' 'residents,' and 'percentages' correctly. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'did not buy as such' and 'went to a were from.' These errors slightly hinder the precision of your report. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more varied collocations related to data description, such as 'a significant proportion,' 'a marginal difference,' or 'the figures for X remained steady.' Expanding your vocabulary will help you describe trends with greater sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'Most of the Australians chose to go to a cafe and have ordered,' where the tense usage is inconsistent. Additionally, there is a missing noun in 'went to a were from.' While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage when describing past survey data will help improve your score.
