Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5

The response attempts to summarize the chart regarding coffee and tea buying and drinking habits in five Australian cities, mentioning several key locations such as Melbourne, Hobart, and Sydney. However, the text suffers from a major negative constraint violation: it falls short of the 150-word minimum, containing only 132 words. Furthermore, the overview is rather disjointed, and the reporting of data contains inaccuracies and lacks a fully developed comparison across all categories provided in the visual data. Key features such as fresh coffee vs. instant coffee trends are only partially addressed. Because the length requirement was not met and key trends are underdeveloped, the task achievement score is limited accordingly. Band score: 4.5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into short paragraphs, but the overall logical progression is weak. The introduction is abrupt, and transitional phrases such as 'In additionally, it also show' and 'Know the citizens' (likely intended to mean 'Now consider') are awkward, creating mechanical and faulty cohesion. Referencing between sentences is sometimes unclear, making it hard to follow the comparisons. While there is an attempt to group cities and contrast habits, the lack of smooth linking devices and poorly managed paragraph transitions disrupt the flow of information. Band score: 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple terms like 'percentage', 'citizens', 'bought', and 'highest percentage'. There are also several noticeable spelling errors and inappropriate word choices, such as 'australlia', 'In additionally', 'Aderalide' (Adelaide), and 'amoung the all 5 major cities'. The range of vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with frequent word-choice and spelling errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Band score: 4.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The student uses a mix of simple and basic complex sentences, but grammatical accuracy is quite low. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and tense consistency, such as 'Melbourne, Hobart and Sydney has', 'individuals who goes', and 'Sydney, Melbourne and Hobart got over to the 60% of the citizens who goes'. Punctuation is also erratic. These frequent errors disrupt the reading process and show poor control over basic grammatical structures, though meaning can still be partially deciphered. Band score: 4.5.
