The chart below shows the results of a survey about people’s coffee and tea buying and drinking habits in five Australian cities.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The bar chart illustrates the percentage of people in five Australian cities who bought fresh coffee, bought instant coffee, or went to a café for coffee or tea in the previous four weeks.

Overall, visiting a café was the most popular activity in Sydney, Melbourne and Hobart. In contrast, buying fresh coffee was the least common activity in most cities. Brisbane and Adelaide recorded the lowest figures for fresh coffee purchases.

In Sydney, around 44% of people bought fresh coffee, while approximately 46% purchased instant coffee. The figure for visiting a café was much higher, at about 61%. Melbourne showed a similar pattern, with roughly 43% buying fresh coffee, 48% buying instant coffee and 64% visiting a café. In Hobart, about 39% purchased fresh coffee, compared with approximately 54% who bought instant coffee and 63% who went to a café.

Brisbane had the lowest proportion of fresh coffee buyers, at around 34%. However, approximately 53% bought instant coffee and 56% visited a café. Adelaide had a similar percentage of fresh coffee buyers, at about 35%. Exactly 50% of people bought instant coffee, while the same proportion went to a café.
