Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover the main features of the chart, mentioning Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Hobart in relation to various coffee habits. However, the overview is extremely basic and contains inaccuracies (e.g., stating Brisbane was the lowest for café visits, whereas Adelaide was actually the lowest at 49.5%). Furthermore, the data reporting is often vague ('below 45%', 'above 50% respectively') and fails to present a clear, fully developed summary of the data. Importantly, the response falls short of the 150-word minimum requirement at 139 words, which negatively impacts the task achievement score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text is organized into short paragraphs representing an introduction, an overview, and body details. However, the logical progression is weak and disjointed. Cohesive devices are minimal and often misused or awkward, such as starting a sentence with 'And lowest Is the Brisbane'. Referencing and linking between sentences fail to establish clear relationships, resulting in a choppy and repetitive structure that makes the overall progression difficult to follow at times.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, relying on terms directly lifted from the prompt such as 'bar chart', 'survey', and 'coffee and tea buying and drinking habits'. There are noticeable spelling and word-form errors, including 'Sydeny' instead of Sydney, 'individual's' instead of individuals', and awkward phrasing such as 'is Melbourne went to cafe'. The range of vocabulary is limited and insufficient for precise reporting of statistical data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
Grammatical control is weak throughout the response, featuring numerous basic errors and a lack of complex structures. Examples include 'Overall it clear that', 'highest proportion of city residents is Melbourne went to cafe', and 'this city is bought instant coffee'. Sentences are often structurally incomplete or malformed (e.g., 'Second is the Brisbane above 50% respectively'). These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and reflect a limited range of grammatical structures.
