Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The student attempts to address the prompt by describing the bar chart, but the response is severely incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence ("on the second hand in Sydney and Hobart"). Furthermore, the length requirement of at least 150 words is not met, as the response contains only 105 words. While an overall trend is identified and some data points are mentioned (e.g., Melbourne's café visiting rate at nearly 65%), the lack of completion and failure to meet the minimum word count significantly limit task achievement, warranting a band score of 4.0 according to the descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay attempts a logical structure with an introduction and body paragraphs, but the abrupt ending makes overall progression difficult to evaluate fully. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes repetitive or awkward, such as "Afterthat" and "Following that". Paragraphing is also disrupted, with the final sentence left dangling as an incomplete thought. However, some basic sequencing is present in the body paragraphs, aligning with a band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent reliance on phrases like "visiting cafe for buying and drinking coffee or tea". There are also some awkward word choices and phrasing, such as referring to "countries of Australia Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Hobart". Spelling is generally acceptable for common words, but the limited range and lack of precision restrict the score to a band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts some complex structures, but grammatical accuracy is weak. There are issues with preposition usage and missing articles (e.g., "results of survey", "visiting cafe"). Sentence structures are often repetitive, and the response ends abruptly with an incomplete sentence fragment ("on the second hand"). Despite these errors, simple sentences are generally understandable, placing the response at a band 5.0.
