Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response makes a partial attempt to address the task, but it is significantly hindered by a lengthy, irrelevant introduction about Australia's geography, history, and national animal. While the writer eventually attempts to report data for the five cities regarding fresh coffee, instant coffee, and café visits, the coverage is somewhat limited and lacks a clear, overarching overview. Some figures are approximated or generalised without clear synthesis, meaning the task is only partially fulfilled. To reach a higher band, the writer must omit all irrelevant background information, provide a clear introductory summary statement highlighting main trends, and present the data with greater accuracy and structure.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

Information and ideas are not arranged coherently due to a complete absence of paragraphing; the entire body of text runs together as a single massive block. While some basic sequence links are attempted, the lack of paragraph divisions and punctuation makes progression difficult to follow. References between ideas become unclear because sentences are mechanically strung together with repetitive conjunctions and run-on structures. To improve, the text must be divided into logical paragraphs, starting with an introductory overview followed by clearly grouped body paragraphs, while utilizing appropriate cohesive devices to signal relationships between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple phrases like 'bought fresh coffee', 'instant coffee', and 'people buying'. There are noticeable lexical limitations and some word-choice inaccuracies, such as 'cafe system' or 'fresh bought coffee'. Spelling and word formation are generally adequate for basic communication, but the range remains restricted and struggles to convey precise statistical information naturally. To achieve a higher level, the writer needs to incorporate a wider range of vocabulary, including less common lexical items, synonyms, and precise collocations related to data reporting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of structures, consisting mostly of simple clauses joined by coordinating conjunctions or run-on sentences lacking proper punctuation. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing capitalization, absent articles (e.g., 'went to cafe', 'at lowest'), and faulty subject-verb agreement or tense consistency. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer must focus on sentence boundaries, accurate use of punctuation, capitalization of proper nouns, and the control of simple and complex grammatical structures.
