Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, finishing significantly short at only 97 words. Furthermore, the visual aid is misidentified in the introduction as a line graph instead of a bar chart. While the writer attempts to outline some general features of the data, such as café visits being high and instant coffee being common, the information is extremely limited, lacks adequate support, and contains inaccuracies when compared to the source material. Ideas are under-developed, and the response only touches upon the task minimally, resulting in a low score for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The text shows an attempt to organise ideas into paragraphs, and an overall progression is vaguely discernible through basic introductory and body divisions. However, the logical flow is heavily disrupted by extremely brief and fragmented sections. Cohesive devices are minimal, mechanical, and occasionally repetitive. Referencing is unclear in places, such as vague pronouns, and paragraphing is underdeveloped due to the extremely short overall length of the essay. The structural organisation remains basic and lacks the clear logical progression needed for higher bands.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, showing a limited range appropriate for simple communication. There are frequent spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'loveones', 'coffeee', 'caffee', 'thier', 'intant', 'likr', 'sydne', 'melbourn', and 'adelaise'. Word choices are often imprecise or inaccurate, reflecting a struggle to find the correct terms for describing statistical charts. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey a very basic gist, the numerous lexical and spelling errors frequently strain the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple and attempted complex structures that are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in verb tenses, such as 'more than 60% people were sit in caffee', missing articles, incorrect prepositions, and severe punctuation deficiencies. Subject-verb agreement issues also appear. Although some simple structures are controlled well enough to maintain basic intelligibility, frequent errors in grammar and sentence construction cause considerable difficulty for the reader throughout the text.
