Student answer (Band 6.0)
The pie chart compares the beverages consumption habits among people in different australian cities, based on whether their population bought fresh coffee, instant coffee or went to a cafe for coffee or tea in last 4 weeks, expressed in form of percentage of whole population.
Overall, the culture of going to cafe for coffee or tea remained most popular, among 4 australian cities of Sydney,Melbourne,Brisbane, and Hobart in last month, while the purchases of instant coffee was more prefered in city of adelaide.
On contrast, the habit of purchasing fresh coffee in 5 of the Australian cities, exhibits the same results as the least popular beverage consumption habit in all cities, for last month.
Firstly, the data for Sydeny reflects that, over 60 percent of citizens went to cafes for their coffee and tea habits, while the proportion of people who bought instant coffee and fresh coffee remained nearly the same at approximately 46 percent and 43 percent, respectively for both cities in last month. While the data for Melbourne also shows the similiar trends, as coffee consumption at cafe remained on top at 64% approximately, and 47% prefered buying instant coffee, while 42% chose to buy the fresh one.
Further, the stats for Brisbane and Hobbart were quite similiar for last month, as in Brisbane the coffee outside and consumption of instant coffee remained nearly the same at 56% and 53%, while the buying of fresh coffee was noticeably low at only 34%. And, the similiar patterns were noticed in hobart too, as like of Brisbane, here in Hobart coffee outing at cafes remained most popular choice of 63% citizens, and on second nearly 54% people there prefered buying instant coffee, while the buyers of fresh coffee was dramatically low here too at only 38%.
Lastly, the Adelaide potrayed distinct stats, as on top instant coffee purchasers were there at 50%, while 48% went out on cafes for beverage drinking and fresh coffee buying remained lower as in other cities, only at 34%.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features of coffee and tea habits across the five Australian cities. An overview is provided, and relevant comparisons are made, such as noting that visiting cafes was generally the most popular activity. However, some aspects of the response are unevenly developed or contain slight inaccuracies against the visual data, such as incorrectly stating that instant coffee was more preferred in Adelaide than cafe visits (when they were actually 48% and 50% respectively, and very close) or stating that fresh coffee was the least popular habit in all cities (whereas in Adelaide instant coffee and fresh coffee were different, but the trend varied). To reach a higher band, the student should ensure all data points are cited with complete accuracy and that comparisons are more rigorously supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the information logically, beginning with an overview and moving into city-by-city details. Paragraphing is used to separate different cities and trends. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, with repetitive transition phrases like 'Firstly', 'Further', and 'Lastly', alongside clunky referencing such as 'similiar trends, as coffee consumption at cafe remained on top'. To improve cohesion, the writer should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that referencing between sentences is seamless and unambiguous.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate basic trends and percentages. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary and task-specific terms, such as 'beverages consumption habits' and 'dramatically low'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies, inappropriate word choices, and spelling errors, such as 'beverages consumption' instead of 'beverage consumption', 'prefered' instead of 'preferred', 'similiar' instead of 'similar', 'potrayed' instead of 'portrayed', and misspellings of city names like 'Sydeny' and 'Hobbart'. These errors do not heavily impede communication, but they prevent the response from achieving a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting relative clauses and comparative structures. There are, however, several grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text. Issues include article misuse ('the habit of purchasing fresh coffee in 5 of the Australian cities, exhibits...', 'went out on cafes'), preposition errors ('for coffee or tea in last 4 weeks' instead of 'in the last 4 weeks'), and clumsy clause structures such as 'while the buyers of fresh coffee was dramatically low here too'. Punctuation is also occasionally faulty, with unnecessary commas breaking up verb phrases. While these errors rarely impede overall communication, they demonstrate only partial control over complex grammatical patterns.
