Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response attempts to address the task by reporting information from the chart, but it does so only partially. While it selects some data points, such as Sydney and Hobart figures, the overall selection is disjointed and lacks a clear overview or fully realised comparisons. The introduction and overview attempt are extremely vague, stating only that 'humans routine of buy and drinking' and mentioning that one city had similar figures for visiting cafes and instant coffee without specifying which. Key features across all five cities are not adequately synthesised or compared, leading to an underdeveloped response that misses significant trends in the data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text demonstrates some organisation with paragraph breaks used to separate cities, but there is no clear overall progression or logical structure guiding the reader through the data. Cohesive devices are frequently inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, as seen in phrases like 'In the both cities' and 'In Hobart city almost 38 % people'. Referencing is also confusing at times, such as 'In the one city of Australia humans the percentage of went to cafe and instant had same', making it difficult to follow which city or category is being discussed. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within sentences and paragraphs remains faulty and mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, with noticeable errors that cause difficulty for the reader. The student relies heavily on basic phrasing and awkward lexical choices such as 'humans routine', 'bought both coffee and tea', and 'went into cafe'. There are frequent word formation and collocation errors, including 'biggest changed' instead of 'biggest change' and 'percentage of bought instant coffee'. These lexical inadequacies restrict the precision required for an academic task, though the general topic of coffee and tea habits remains recognisable despite the awkward phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing displays a very limited range of sentence structures, with frequent basic errors throughout. The student attempts some complex structures, but these attempts are almost always faulty, resulting in ungrammatical clauses such as 'the percentage of bought both coffee and tea in last four weeks' and 'the percentage of bought instant coffee and went to cafe for coffee and tea had different'. Frequent errors in verb forms, missing articles, incorrect prepositions, and non-standard word order cause considerable difficulty for the reader and impede clear communication.
