Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt and attempts to report key features and comparisons from the chart regarding coffee and tea habits across five Australian cities. However, the selection of data is somewhat mechanical, and the overview contains inaccuracies and over-generalisations, such as stating that Melbourne has the maximum percentage overall and Brisbane has the minimum, which is not supported by the data across all three categories. Furthermore, some reported figures contain inaccuracies, such as citing Sydney's café visits at 62% instead of the approximate 61%. To reach a higher level, the response needs to select clearer main trends and present an accurate overview supported by precise data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay attempts a logical structure by dividing details into paragraphs, starting with an introduction and overview, followed by body paragraphs detailing specific cities. However, the progression is hindered by repetitive phrasing, informal transitional phrases like 'Fetching into details' and 'Concedring the remaining details', and awkward referencing. Cohesive devices are sometimes used mechanically or inaccurately. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion requires better logical links between sentences. To improve, the writer should use a wider variety of natural cohesive devices and ensure a smoother, clearer progression of ideas throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, with simple terms like 'percentage', 'people', and 'cities' repeated throughout the response. There are several spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'australian' (uncapitalized), 'lucid', 'brsbane', and 'Concedring'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, but these attempts are often imprecise or awkwardly phrased, such as 'Fetching into details'. To progress, the writer needs to incorporate a wider and more accurate range of vocabulary, improve spelling accuracy, and use precise collocations appropriate for reporting statistical data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The text demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with occasional attempts at complex forms that often contain errors. There are frequent grammar and punctuation issues, such as missing articles ('went to cafe'), capitalization errors ('sydney', 'melbourne', 'adeelaide'), and awkward prepositional usage. While communication is generally maintained despite these errors, the lack of a strong variety of error-free complex structures keeps the grammar score at this level. To improve, the writer should focus on mastering basic sentence mechanics, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles and capitalization.
