Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response only partially addresses the prompt and fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, falling short at 144 words. While the student attempts to report on the bar chart depicting coffee and tea habits in five Australian cities, the information selected is heavily confused and inaccurate. The writer misinterprets the data categories entirely, referring to "bought fresh tea" and "bought tea in last 4 weeks" which do not exist in the chart, as the categories are fresh coffee, instant coffee, and café visits. Furthermore, data values are misread or poorly reported, leading to an unclear overview that lacks a proper summary of the main features.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The writing shows some organization with basic paragraphing, but there is no clear overall progression or logical structure. Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or used inappropriately, such as the awkward transitional phrase "On the one hand" which is not followed by a corresponding "On the other hand". Referencing is frequently unclear, and the mechanical flow makes it difficult for the reader to follow the comparisons between the five cities. Ideas are disjointed, and sentences are abruptly linked without proper logical relationships.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary range is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with noticeable errors that cause difficulty for the reader. There are frequent spelling and word-form errors, such as "Austraian" instead of Australian, "pecentage" instead of percentage, and "cites" instead of cities. Furthermore, inaccurate word choices and flawed collocations—such as "more demanded habits" and "dropped figure"—stain the response. The student struggles to accurately name the categories presented in the visual data, relying on basic and repetitive terminology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, with frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. Simple sentence structures often contain basic agreement and structural errors, such as "individuals coffee and tea purchasing..." and "the bought fresh coffee in last 4 weeks highest pecentage". Attempts at more complex sentences are faulty and disorganized, as seen in "sydney more demanded went to a cafe for coffee and tea last 4 weeks highest amount approximately 61%". Punctuation and articles are frequently misused or omitted throughout the text.
