Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, coming in at only 123 words, which significantly limits the development of the answer. While the writer attempts to address the task by referencing several figures from the chart, the information is presented in a fragmented and minimal way. Key features are not clearly reported, and comparisons are confused or inaccurate. For instance, the writer claims that 'Hobart stay the same 64 percent' for visiting a cafe, which misreads the data. Furthermore, the response trails off abruptly with 'Furthermore,' leaving the summary incomplete. As a result, the response only minimally addresses the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The organization of the text is very weak, lacking a coherent overall progression. Information is grouped illogically, and sentences are disjointed, making the response difficult to follow. Paragraphing is haphazard, with arbitrary line breaks and an incomplete final sentence that ends abruptly with a conjunction. While some basic cohesive devices like 'While' and 'On the other hand' are attempted, referencing and transitions are frequently faulty or mechanical, preventing any clear logical flow throughout the essay.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, frequently impeded by severe spelling errors and incorrect word forms. Examples include 'defferant' instead of different, 'weant' instead of went, 'damend' instead of demand, and 'cofe' for café. The writer attempts to use less common items, such as 'percentage', but these are used inaccurately or combined with poor collocations. These numerous lexical errors and limitations strain the reader and obscure the intended meaning of the data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Grammatical control is extremely limited, featuring frequent errors that distort meaning throughout the response. There is a near-total lack of accurate sentence structures, with severe issues in subject-verb agreement, missing prepositions, and incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'Australia three cities Sydney,Melbourane and Hobart a significant number of people eating weant to a cafe'). Complex sentence forms are either absent or heavily flawed, and basic punctuation is erratic, making the majority of sentences grammatically incorrect and difficult to parse.
