Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task partially, presenting some main features and data from the chart regarding coffee and tea habits across five Australian cities. However, the selection of data is erratic, and some information is misreported or confused, such as mixing up the percentages for café visits and fresh coffee purchases. The overview is overly simplistic and difficult to follow due to expression issues. While some comparisons are attempted, the ideas remain limited and under-developed, preventing the response from reaching a higher level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The text shows some basic organization by breaking information into paragraphs, but there is no clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are used very mechanically or are entirely missing between sentences, leading to abrupt transitions and a disjointed structure. Referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow which city or category is being discussed. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical arrangement within those paragraphs needs substantial improvement to achieve clearer flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple words and heavily marred by spelling mistakes and incorrect word forms, such as 'defferant', 'damend', 'cofe', and 'caffee'. There are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation that cause significant difficulty for the reader and strain comprehension. The range is limited and minimally adequate only in terms of conveying the basic topic, but lacks the precision and appropriateness required for a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Grammatical control is weak, featuring a very limited range of structures. Attempts at complex sentences are almost entirely absent or severely faulty, as seen in broken clauses like 'while it is rate highest Sydney 45 parcent'. There are frequent errors in verb forms, articles, prepositions, and basic sentence construction that cause considerable difficulty for the reader and obscure the intended meaning throughout the text.
