Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially. While it attempts to report data from the chart, the information is presented in a somewhat disjointed manner, and proper capitalization of proper nouns such as "australian", "sydney", "melbourne", "brisbane", "adelaide", and "hobart" is lacking throughout. The overview is weak, consisting merely of a vague statement that Adelaide has the least percentage of overall ratio of people. Furthermore, some of the data points cited contain inaccuracies or lack precision when compared against the visual data, such as claiming Sydney had a "60% ratio of people who went to a cafe" when the figure is closer to 61%, and stating Hobart went upward with "38% fresh coffe" while missing key comparative highlights across the five cities. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to provide a clearer overview of main trends, present more accurate data representation, and fully develop comparisons between the categories.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates some organization, but there is no clear overall progression, and paragraphing is poorly handled. The text is split into very blocky paragraphs with poor internal structure and run-on sentences, such as "sydney has 40-45% people who has bought fresh coffee in last 4 weeks and has purchased instant coffee in last 4 weeks additonaly they had 60% ratio..." Cohesive devices are either inadequate, repetitive, or inaccurate, relying heavily on conversational transition words like "we can see from the chart" and "apart from this". Referencing is also not always clear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the logical flow of comparisons between the five cities. To improve coherence, the writer should use standard academic paragraphing, introduce a distinct overview paragraph, and employ a wider range of accurate cohesive devices to connect ideas smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Vocabulary use is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer relies on basic and repetitive vocabulary, such as constantly repeating words like "percentage", "ratio", "bought", "purchased", and "coffee". There are noticeable spelling errors ("additonaly", "alsmost", "wich", "coffe") and incorrect word forms or collocations, such as "habit of purchasing the coffee", "downgrade", and "decreasing in graph". These lexical inaccuracies and restricted word choices occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to incorporate a wider range of vocabulary, use less common lexical items with greater precision, pay closer attention to spelling and word formation, and avoid repetitive phrasing when describing statistical data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences or faulty attempts at complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ("the adelaide has the least", "last hobart has again"), subject-verb agreement issues ("starting two cities sydney and melbourne has alsmost same ratio"), and incorrect verb tenses or forms ("people who has bought", "there is decreasing in graph showing"). Punctuation and capitalization are also poorly controlled, with missing capitalization on city names and run-on clauses linked improperly. These frequent errors cause strain and difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer must improve control over basic grammar rules, ensure accurate subject-verb agreement, and correctly form complex sentence structures with appropriate punctuation.
