Student answer (Band 5.0)
The given bar gragh illustrates the results of a survey about buying and drinking coffee and tea habits among residents of five Australian cities. Overall, the trend of visiting cafe remained most the popular and buying fresh one was the least in all cities. Whereas, good proportion of people bought instant coffee in the previous four weeks.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarise the main features of the chart, but it falls short of the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, finishing abruptly with an incomplete sentence at the end. While an overview is provided noting general trends, the selection and comparison of data are limited and lack sufficient detail. Certain figures are described vaguely, such as saying the percentage 'lied between 45% to 55%', and the data is cut off before fully exploring all five cities. To reach a higher level, you must write at least 150 words, present a more thoroughly developed comparison of all key data points, and ensure your response reaches a complete, logical conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response shows some basic organisation with an introductory sentence and a brief overview, but there is no clear overall progression across the text. Paragraphing is attempted, but the transition between ideas is sometimes abrupt or mechanical. Cohesive devices are used minimally and repetitively, such as 'whereas' and 'however', which are not always placed correctly. Pronoun referencing and linking phrases lack clarity, leading to a choppy flow of information. To improve, you should group related data logically into separate body paragraphs and use a wider variety of cohesive markers to guide the reader smoothly from one comparison to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, but the range is limited and repetitive. There are several noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as writing 'bar gragh' instead of 'bar graph', 'buying and drinking coffee and tea habits' instead of 'habits of buying and drinking coffee and tea', and 'visiting cafe' instead of 'visiting cafés'. Phrasing like 'buying fresh one' is unnatural. Spelling mistakes and awkward lexical choices occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher score, you should incorporate a wider variety of precise, less-common vocabulary related to data reporting and ensure correct collocations and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing relies on a limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences are often faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing articles ('went to the cafe'), awkward prepositional patterns ('people of Adelaide'), and issues with subject-verb agreement or verb forms ('people about 50% bought'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, and the text ends with an unfinished sentence fragment. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and restrict the score in this area. To improve, you need to practise forming accurate complex sentences and carefully proofread your work for basic grammatical slip-ups.
