Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response makes an attempt to describe the chart, but it only minimally addresses the prompt. The selection of data is erratic and lacks a clear overview of the main trends or significant comparisons. Furthermore, the content suffers from major misinterpretations of the visual data, such as treating the categories of fresh coffee, instant coffee, and café visits as attributes belonging to specific cities or cities themselves, stating phrases like 'Sydney is the coffee that shows the ratio' and 'they bought upto 50% instant Brisbane.' While some specific percentages are mentioned, they are often imprecise or inaccurate compared to the actual source graph. To move to a higher band, the writer would need to present a clear, overarching summary of the data, accurately report the main features without confusing categories, and provide logical comparisons across the five cities rather than listing cities in a repetitive, unselective manner.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response is arranged as a single, dense block of text without proper paragraphing, which makes the progression extremely difficult to follow. Cohesion within and between sentences is mechanical and repetitive, relying heavily on formulas like 'we observe that', 'in last four weeks', and 'On the other hand'. Referencing is also faulty and confusing, as seen in expressions like 'people went to cafe for Brisbane', which obscures the logical connection between the ideas and the data. To achieve a higher band, the writer must organise the essay into distinct paragraphs—such as an introduction, an overview, and logical grouping paragraphs for the body—and use a wider, more natural range of cohesive devices to connect ideas smoothly and clearly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, heavily relying on words directly lifted from the prompt such as 'graph', 'people', 'bought', 'fresh coffee', 'instant coffee', and 'cafe'. There are frequent inappropriate word choices and collocations that reveal a limited range, such as 'habibts', 'the ratio of melbourne', and treating cities as items that were bought ('instant Melbourne brought upto 45%'). Word forms and spelling contain noticeable errors, like 'explantion' and 'fpr'. To improve lexical resource, the writer needs to incorporate a wider variety of synonyms and less common vocabulary to discuss percentages and trends precisely, and ensure that terms are combined in natural, accurate collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, consisting almost entirely of repetitive subject-verb-object clauses and overly simplistic or run-on sentences. Grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in basic sentence construction, missing or incorrect prepositions ('in graph', 'to cafe'), and awkward word order ('the percentage of drinking and buying tea and coffee habibts of people'). Articles are also frequently misused or omitted. To reach a higher band, the writer must incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures and significantly reduce the frequency of basic grammatical errors by ensuring proper subject-verb agreement, accurate prepositional usage, and correct punctuation throughout the response.
