Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features and making relevant comparisons across the five Australian cities. However, some areas are under-developed or contain factual inaccuracies based on the chart. For example, the statement that 'Residents of Melbourne visited the cafe more than the other four cities around 61% followed by Sydney around 60%' is partially reversed, as Melbourne actually had 63.5% and Hobart 63%, with Sydney at 61%. Furthermore, claiming that 'Hobart generate the highest revenue' goes beyond the provided visual data, which shows percentages of residents rather than financial revenue. The overview is present but could be more robustly integrated to capture all three survey categories fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The text presents a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical paragraph structure, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs detailing specific data points. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, the transition 'Overall. the majority' contains a punctuation error (a full stop instead of a comma), and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'the percentage of the visited one by one percentage'. Paragraphing is utilized, but the progression between ideas could be smoother and better linked to ensure seamless readability throughout the response.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, successfully conveying basic trends and comparisons regarding coffee and tea habits. The student attempts less common vocabulary such as 'surpassed', 'revenue', and 'respectively', but these attempts are sometimes inaccurate or inappropriate, as seen with 'revenue' instead of proportion or percentage. There are also occasional word choice and phrasing errors, such as 'Australians habits' instead of 'Australian habits' and 'the least common one was fresh coffee' instead of the purchase of fresh coffee. These lexical slips do not impede overall communication but prevent the response from achieving a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as concessive clauses starting with 'Although'. There are several errors in grammar and punctuation, including subject-verb agreement issues ('The bar charts illustrates', 'Hobart generate'), article usage ('visit the cafe', 'the fresh coffee peaked'), and faulty clause structures (e.g., 'Although the fresh coffee peaked in Sydney around 44%, but it is the lowest'). Punctuation mistakes, like the sentence fragment 'It answer the question, whether they chose...', are also present. These errors occur regularly but rarely impede communication, placing the grammatical control firmly within this band.
