Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
You identify the chart’s general subject and refer to all three activities, but the main features are not accurately reported, so the summary only partially fulfils the task. For example, you say fresh coffee reached 63%, 62% and 61% in Melbourne, Hobart and Sydney; those figures actually describe café visits in Melbourne, Hobart and Sydney, while fresh-coffee purchases were around 42.5%, 38.5% and 44%. The claim that Adelaide’s fresh-coffee sales “plummeted” is also unsupported, as the chart gives a single-period comparison rather than a change over time. Your café figures are substantially misassigned too. The response is 12 words below the required minimum. Select the highest and lowest values for each activity, then check every figure against its city and category.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation: you begin with an introduction, provide an overall statement, and then attempt to discuss individual activities. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “On the other hand,” and “Meanwhile” show an effort to connect ideas. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the comparisons shift between categories and cities without a clear pattern, and some links do not express a logical contrast. For instance, the paragraph moves from fresh coffee to instant coffee and then café visits without clearly separating or comparing the three series. Grouping the information into an overview followed by two focused detail paragraphs, and using consistent city-by-city comparisons, would make the report easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “survey,” “citizens,” “purchase,” and “instant coffee,” and you attempt to describe comparisons with phrases such as “in comparison to.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unclear, which sometimes makes the data difficult to understand. “Fresh coffee saled” and “significant amount of instant coffee bought” are not natural ways to describe the chart, while “545” appears to be an incorrect rendering of a percentage. There are also spelling errors in “Birsbane” and inconsistent forms such as “cafe.” Use precise reporting language such as “the proportion who bought” or “the percentage who visited,” and check spelling and percentage notation carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple sentences and more complex structures, including the contrast beginning “While…” and the sentence starting “On the other hand.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence construction, agreement, articles and punctuation sometimes obscure meaning. For example, “almost people's of Melbourne and Hobart bought” has an incorrect structure, and “In the sydney only 44% customer to drink coffee at the cafe” lacks a complete, correctly formed clause. Commas and spaces around punctuation are also inconsistent. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, for example, “In Sydney, 44% of residents bought fresh coffee.” Then check articles, plural nouns and sentence boundaries.
