Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response identifies several relevant patterns, including café visits being highest in Melbourne and Hobart and fresh coffee purchases being lower in Brisbane and Adelaide. However, the overview is incomplete and some comparisons are inaccurate or unclear. Sydney’s café figure is described as “about 60 percent,” which is close, but the opening claim that it is the highest is incorrect: Melbourne and Hobart are higher. The statement that Hobart had “the same percentage” as Melbourne for café visits also overlooks their small difference. Several figures are reported without clearly identifying the city, and the response does not systematically compare all three categories across the five cities. A clearer overview of the main contrasts, followed by accurate, city-specific details, would make the summary more complete and relevant.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some grouping of information: the response first discusses Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide, then turns to Hobart and ends with an overall statement. This gives the reader a basic sense of organisation. However, progression is difficult to follow because comparisons shift between cities and categories without a consistent structure. For example, “Brisbane and Adelaide were following kinda same trend” is followed by several figures and then an unclear reference to café visits. Linking phrases such as “Probing further” and “moreover” do not always clarify how the next point relates to the previous one, and the final overview repeats information rather than synthesising it. Organise the body by category or by city, and use clear references and transitions to show each comparison.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response attempts a range of vocabulary, including “depicts,” “distinct,” “individuals,” and “evident,” and it uses relevant terms such as “fresh coffee,” “instant coffee,” and “cafe.” However, several choices are inaccurate or informal for an academic summary. “Intaking” is not a natural choice here, “buying coffee and tea from cafe” does not accurately describe the café category, and “kinda same trend” is too conversational. Spelling and word-form problems, including “ilucidated,” “furthur,” and “lasgest,” also reduce precision. Aim for standard chart language and natural collocations, such as “purchased,” “visited a café,” and “a similar pattern.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and more extended sentences, including a contrast with “whereas” and a concluding sentence beginning “overall.” However, control is inconsistent, and several sentence structures are incomplete or difficult to interpret. For example, “Less than 45 percent of people bought the fresh coffee.whereas 45percent…” lacks appropriate sentence separation and punctuation, while “42% of people who bought fresh coffee…” is a fragment without a complete main clause. There are also problems with articles, agreement and verb forms, as in “people who visit cafe … was” and “Melbourne and Hobart, had.” Use complete clauses, check singular and plural agreement, and punctuate sentence boundaries carefully. These changes would make the comparisons easier to understand.
