Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You report all three survey categories and include figures for each of the five cities, so the response is relevant to the chart. However, the main features are not clearly selected or summarised: there is no overview identifying, for example, that café visits were generally the most common activity and fresh-coffee purchases the least common. Some figures are also inaccurate or imprecise: Sydney café visits are about 61%, not 60% exactly, while Melbourne is about 63.5%, rather than 65%; Brisbane instant coffee is about 53%, rather than 52%. The response mainly lists cities category by category, with little comparison of the overall patterns. A clear overview and more accurate, selective comparisons would make the report more complete and better supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear basic arrangement: it moves from fresh coffee to instant coffee and then to café visits, with each category presented in a separate paragraph. This makes the information reasonably easy to follow. However, the organisation is mostly a sequence of city-by-city figures rather than a progression that highlights similarities and contrasts. Linking expressions such as “Starting with” and “where” are used, but some connections are awkward or unclear, and the opening sentence does not lead into a distinct overview. Grouping cities with similar results and using clearer comparison links would improve the flow. Overall, the paragraphing provides a coherent framework, although cohesion is sometimes mechanical and comparisons are limited.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “consumers,” “purchasing,” and “survey,” and the reader can generally identify the activities being described. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the report difficult to read. For example, “hit the cafe” is too informal for an academic report, and “holding almost 35%” is not a natural way to describe a figure. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “cofee,” “cunsuming,” “australa,” and “chicks.” Aim for precise reporting verbs such as “accounted for” or “stood at,” and check spelling carefully. More accurate, formal vocabulary would make the descriptions clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer sentences and use basic comparative structures, but grammatical control is inconsistent. The opening, “The given graph is depict,” has an incorrect verb form, while “45% peoples bought” and “the melbourne is” show problems with plural forms and articles. Agreement errors also occur in phrases such as “instant coffe cunsumers in sydney is 45%” and “both the cities is holding.” Several sentences run together or use punctuation inconsistently, making relationships between ideas less clear. Most sentence patterns are simple, and attempts to connect clauses are not always accurate. Practise forming clear subject–verb sentences and use a wider range of structures only when you can control their grammar and punctuation.
