Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response identifies relevant features, including café visits being high in Melbourne and Hobart and fresh-coffee purchases being relatively low in Adelaide. However, it only partially reports the chart: it gives few accurate comparisons across all five cities, and the claim that Sydney has the most instant-coffee buyers is incorrect; Hobart is highest, while Brisbane is also above Sydney. The café figures are unclear in “nearly same like 60%, 63, and 64%,” and the overview’s “uncertainty” does not describe a meaningful trend. The response is also 143 words, below the required 150; the 11 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Include a clear overview and select several accurate comparisons to develop the summary.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic structure, moving from an opening statement to details introduced by “Firstly” and “Moreover,” then a concluding “Overall” sentence. These markers help the reader recognise the intended sections. However, progression is limited: the details are not consistently organised by category or by city, and the final overview largely repeats the café point rather than summarising the main patterns. Some links are unclear, particularly “The ratio of these people are nearly same like 60%, 63, and 64%,” where the figures are not clearly matched to cities. Group the comparisons more systematically—for example, café attendance first, then fresh and instant coffee—and use references that make each comparison explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “instant coffee,” “fresh coffee,” “percentage,” and “buying behaviour,” so the reader can generally identify the subject. However, the range is limited and several choices are imprecise or repetitive. “Uncertainty” is used twice to describe differences in the data, although it does not convey the chart’s patterns; “ratio” is also not the most suitable term for these percentages. There are noticeable spelling and word-form errors, such as “uncerntainity,” “percenatge,” and “customer” where a plural is needed. Aim for precise chart language such as “proportion,” “share,” “higher,” and “lower,” and check spelling and collocations during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response mainly uses simple sentence patterns, with a few attempts to connect ideas using “Moreover” and “who.” Errors occur frequently in agreement, articles, and sentence construction, sometimes making comparisons difficult to follow. For example, “Sydney have maximum number” should use a singular verb and an article, while “Hobart have highest percenatge” has the same agreement problem. In “The ratio of these people are nearly same,” the subject and verb do not agree, and the comparison is not formed clearly. Punctuation is also inconsistent, as in “Firstly,we” and “we can see that, certain.” Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add controlled comparative structures such as “The proportion in Hobart was higher than in Adelaide.”
