Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the chart’s subject and make some relevant comparisons, including café visits being high in Melbourne and Hobart and lower in Adelaide. However, the overview is unclear and includes inaccurate or confusing claims: “melboume shold have faster rate” does not specify what is highest, and Brisbane’s instant-coffee figure is not the lowest; Hobart is highest at about 55%, while Sydney is lowest at about 46%. Several figures or categories are also misreported, such as describing instant coffee as “instant tea” and giving Brisbane fresh coffee as 28% rather than about 35%. To improve, state the main patterns accurately in a clear overview, then compare the three activities using the correct city figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an attempted overview, and two paragraphs comparing cities. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is grouped. However, progression is difficult to follow because the overview is not clearly expressed and comparisons shift between activities without a consistent order. Connectors such as “Overall,” “On the other hand,” and repeated “while” do not always show the relationship between the figures, and the long final sentence combines several comparisons. Organise the body by activity or by a consistent city grouping, and use clear linking phrases to guide each comparison. More precise references to the relevant series would also make the connections easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some task-related vocabulary, including “percentage,” “rate,” “bought,” and “went to a cafe,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings make the meaning difficult to interpret. Examples include “people hobby,” “faster rate,” “coffee installed,” and “lise,” while “instant tea” mislabels the chart category. City names are also misspelled (“melboume,” “hobert”), and “from previous four week” is not a natural way to describe the survey period. Build a reliable set of chart terms such as “proportion,” “purchased instant coffee,” and “visited a café,” and check spelling and collocations before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, and the response includes an overview and comparisons. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors frequently make relationships between figures hard to understand. For example, “The graph illustrate” has subject–verb disagreement, while “people went to cafe and drink coffee would be lise” combines incompatible verb forms and an unclear clause structure. Articles and plurals are often missing, as in “in previous four week,” and punctuation is frequently attached to words or used inconsistently. Practise accurate simple comparison patterns first, such as “The proportion who visited a café was higher in Melbourne than in Adelaide,” then add more complex clauses once the basic sentence structure is secure.
