Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the chart’s subject and mention café visits, instant coffee and fresh coffee, so the response is relevant. However, the summary is only partial: it gives no complete overview of the three categories across all five cities, and the final paragraph stops after comparing fresh-coffee figures for Sydney and Melbourne. Some comparisons are inaccurate or unclear. For example, Brisbane, Hobart and Adelaide do not have lower instant-coffee figures than the other cities; they are among the higher results, with Hobart highest. The claim that fresh coffee “shows fall” in Brisbane and Adelaide is also not clearly supported as a trend. The response is 118 words, below the required 150. Report the main highs and lows accurately, then support the overview with selected figures from each category.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an introduction is followed by an overview and then a detail paragraph. This gives the reader some sense of the intended structure. However, progression is limited because the final paragraph covers only two fresh-coffee figures and does not develop the other categories or cities. The overview also combines several comparisons in a way that is difficult to follow, particularly “Brisbane, Hobart and Adelaide a little less percentage in instant coffee related to other cities.” Linking and reference are not always clear, and the response ends abruptly. Use one paragraph for a concise overview and separate detail paragraphs that group comparable data, with clear transitions such as “By contrast” and “Regarding instant coffee.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “percentage,” “survey,” “bought fresh coffee” and “went to a cafe,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several phrases are awkward or imprecise, such as “greater percentage in citizen” and “a little less percentage in instant coffee.” Repetition of “coffee,” “percentage” and “in 4 weeks” also makes the description less fluent. There are spelling errors, including “cofee,” and “qnd,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for concise chart language and accurate collocations, for example, “the proportion of residents who visited a café” and “the figure for instant coffee purchases.” Check spelling carefully and vary how you refer to the data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the opening sentence communicates the chart’s general subject. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, with errors in articles, agreement and sentence construction. For example, “results of survey” needs an article, while “people living in Melbourne, Sydney qnd Hobart shows” has a subject–verb agreement problem. The overview fragment “Brisbane, Hobart and Adelaide a little less percentage…” lacks a complete verb structure, and “it shows in Sydney, the percentage is…” is awkwardly constructed. These errors sometimes make comparisons difficult to interpret. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use accurate patterns such as “The proportion in Sydney was…” or “Hobart recorded the highest figure.”
