Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the three survey categories and include several relevant figures, such as fresh coffee at about 43% in Sydney and café visits at roughly 61% in Sydney. However, the overview is not an accurate summary of the chart: it describes increases and decreases over time, although the data compare five cities, and claims about Sydney and Hobart “growing” or “declin[ing]” are unsupported. Some comparisons are also incomplete or mislabelled: “fresh tea” should be fresh coffee, and the final paragraph does not clearly report the café figures for all cities. The response is 147 words, below the 150-word minimum. To improve, give a clear overview of the main city-to-city patterns and accurately compare the three categories.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response has separate paragraphs and attempts to group information, first discussing Sydney and Melbourne and then other cities. This gives it some basic organisation. However, the ideas are not arranged coherently: the overview describes changes over time, while the chart presents comparisons between cities, and the final paragraph repeats broad claims rather than drawing the information together. Linking words such as “So,” “Therefore,” and “However” are frequent but often do not show a clear logical relationship. Some comparisons also jump between cities, as in “tea in Brisbane 55% and in Hobart 62%,” without explaining the shift. Organise the body by category or by a consistent city grouping, and use links only where they clarify the comparison.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough basic topic vocabulary to identify the chart’s subject and categories, including “fresh coffee,” “instant coffee,” “survey,” and “percentage.” However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unsuitable for describing static data. “Fresh tea” misnames the category, while “boost,” “growing,” and “declined” suggest change over time rather than differences between cities. “Normaly” is also misspelled, and repeated use of “So” and “increased” makes the description less precise. Use standard chart language such as “the proportion,” “was higher,” and “recorded,” and check the chart labels carefully. More accurate vocabulary would make the comparisons easier to understand.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both short statements and longer sentences, and the reader can generally recognise the intended categories and figures. However, the range of sentence structures is very limited, and frequent errors sometimes make relationships unclear. For example, “The fresh coffee in Sydney increased” uses a change verb for a single city value, while “in Melbourne normaly decreased” lacks a clear subject and comparison. There are also punctuation and sentence-boundary problems, such as “increased. And” and “declined. And then,” as well as inconsistent capitalisation at the start of paragraphs and city names. Practise complete comparative sentences, for example, “Fresh coffee purchases were slightly higher in Sydney than in Melbourne,” and check punctuation and capital letters.
