Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The response selects the main patterns and supports them with relevant figures: café visits are highest in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Hobart, while fresh-coffee purchases are generally lower. The overview also identifies Adelaide’s near-equal café and instant-coffee proportions, a useful comparison. Most reported values match the chart closely. One factual detail needs correction: Hobart’s café figure is about 63%, not 61%; the overview’s claim that Melbourne has the highest café proportion is also inaccurate, as Hobart is marginally lower at about 63% and Melbourne is about 63.5%. The account is otherwise clear and covers all five cities. More precise comparisons and a fully accurate overview would strengthen the report further.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs reporting city-level details. Grouping Sydney and Melbourne before moving through the remaining cities makes the information easy to follow, and phrases such as “By contrast” help signal comparisons. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent overall arrangement. However, cohesion is sometimes weakened by inconsistent sentence boundaries and capitalization, such as “In adelaide” and “finally, in hobart,” while the Brisbane-to-Adelaide transition is abrupt. Some repeated “while” constructions also make the reporting feel mechanical. Use consistent paragraph and sentence formatting, and vary comparison structures so the progression feels more controlled and flexible.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

There is adequate vocabulary for describing the chart, including “proportion,” “accounted for,” “recorded,” and “compared with.” The writer also varies some expressions for purchasing and café visits, so the meaning remains clear. However, several spelling errors—“Syndey,” “polular,” “approxiamately,” and “acccounted”—show inconsistent control, and some choices are imprecise or repetitive. “The data is calibrated in percentage” is not a natural way to describe the chart’s measurement; “figures are given as percentages” would be clearer. Repeated use of “about” and “approximately” also limits flexibility. Check spelling carefully and use precise, natural collocations for survey data and proportions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including comparisons with “whereas” and “while,” and most relationships between figures are understandable. Some grammatical and punctuation errors remain, however. In “61% of residents visiiting a cafe,” the clause lacks a finite verb; write “61% of residents visited a café.” The phrase “about 64% the highest figure” needs a linking structure, such as “about 64%, the highest figure on the chart.” There are also sentence-boundary problems in “By contrast, fresh coffee purchases accounted for just 34% In adelaide,” and inconsistent capitalization after full stops. Improving verb forms, clause completion, and punctuation would make the varied structures more accurate.
