Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover all three activities across the five cities and include a clear overview: café visits generally attract the largest shares, while fresh coffee is usually the least popular. The city-by-city figures are mostly consistent with the chart, including the high café figures in Melbourne and Hobart and the low fresh-coffee figures in Brisbane and Adelaide. However, the overview contains an important factual slip: café-going is not the most popular activity in all five cities, since in Adelaide instant coffee purchases are slightly higher than café visits. The phrase “purchasing least coffee” is also unclear about which type you mean. To strengthen the response, make the overview more precise and highlight key contrasts, such as instant coffee leading in Adelaide and Hobart while café visits lead elsewhere.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and then city-based details. The progression from Sydney and Melbourne to Brisbane, Adelaide, and Hobart is easy to follow, and comparisons within each city help organise the figures. Linking expressions such as “Meanwhile,” “By contrast,” and “Finally” support this structure. Some cohesion is less controlled, however: the overview’s “whereas inverse could be seen” is unclear, and the repeated city-by-city pattern makes the report somewhat list-like rather than grouping the most meaningful comparisons. Capitalisation and punctuation also interrupt the flow in places, such as “By contrast” after a comma. Use clearer references and group cities with similar patterns to make the progression more flexible.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “accounted for,” “purchased,” and “compared with,” which helps describe the data without excessive repetition. There are also attempts at varied phrasing, such as “a similar trend was observed.” However, several word-choice and spelling problems reduce precision: “purchasing least coffee” does not clearly identify fresh or instant coffee, “inverse could be seen” is not a natural expression, and “visiting a cafe” is less suitable than a noun phrase such as “café visits.” Spelling errors include “Syndey,” “approxiamately,” and “whie.” Aim for accurate collocations and consistent spelling, and use “residents” or “the proportion” precisely when describing percentages.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including comparisons with “whereas” and “while,” and most of the data remains understandable. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly in the overview and in sentences where a verb is missing or has the wrong form. For example, “Melbourne show the highest proportion” needs subject–verb agreement, while “where cafe visits around 64%” needs a verb such as “were.” The opening also has an awkward time expression, “over the previous four week,” and the overview begins with a lower-case “overall.” Check agreement, articles, plural forms, and complete clause structure. More consistently accurate sentences would make your varied structures clearer and more effective.
