Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the three survey categories and make relevant comparisons across the cities, including the high café figures in Melbourne, Hobart and Sydney and the relatively low fresh-coffee figures. However, the overview is incomplete and partly inaccurate: café visits were highest in Melbourne and Hobart, but the response does not clearly state that café-going was the leading category in most cities. Some details are also misreported: Adelaide, not Sydney, had the lowest café figure, and Hobart’s fresh-coffee result was about 38.5%, not 42%. The claim that fresh coffee was the least popular category across the other cities is too broad, since café visits were lower than instant coffee in Adelaide. Select the main patterns accurately and support them with precise comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and separate paragraphs for café visits and coffee purchases. This gives the reader some organisation. However, progression is limited because the overview does not clearly summarise the main pattern, and the body paragraphs move between cities without a consistent comparison method. Linking is also sometimes awkward or incomplete: “While brisbane stood at 55%” is left as a fragment, and “On other hand” does not connect smoothly to the preceding point. Use complete sentences and organise each paragraph around a clear comparison, such as ranking cities within one category or comparing the three categories across cities.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant task vocabulary such as “percentage,” “category,” “accounted for” and “stood at,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or repetitive. “Buying and purchasing” duplicates the same idea, while “cafe category was famous” is not a natural way to describe survey results; “café visits were most common” would be clearer. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “Hobert,” “amoung,” “insividuals,” “Bribane” and “Austalia,” which reduce precision. Aim for accurate, neutral chart language and check spelling carefully. Vocabulary suggestions: “famous” → “most popular”; “least category” → “lowest proportion”; “purchasing fresh coffee” → “buying fresh coffee”; “stood at the around” → “was approximately.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some sentence variety, including an overview and a contrast introduced by “While,” but the range is limited and complex structures are not consistently controlled. For example, “While brisbane stood at 55% and Adelaide accounted for the least category” is a dependent clause without a main clause. In “Instant coffee recorded the most percentage than fresh coffee,” the comparison structure is faulty, and “Hobert around 54%” lacks a clear verb. Articles and sentence punctuation also need attention, as in “On other hand” and the comma-separated city figures. Practise writing complete subject–verb sentences and use straightforward comparison patterns, such as “The figure for X was higher than that for Y.”
