Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main categories and make several relevant comparisons, including café visits being high and fresh-coffee purchases being relatively low. You also report useful figures for Melbourne, Adelaide, Hobart, Sydney and Brisbane. However, the overview is not sufficiently clear or accurate: Melbourne, not the highest, has the second-highest café figure, narrowly below Hobart, and Sydney—not Melbourne—has the highest fresh-coffee figure. The claim that Brisbane has the lowest fresh-coffee figure is also incorrect; Brisbane and Adelaide are approximately equal. Some figures are imprecise, and the response does not consistently compare the three habits across all cities. A clearer overview of the main highs, lows and patterns, supported by accurate comparisons, would strengthen the report.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response contains relevant information and moves from a general statement to city-specific details, but the progression is difficult to follow. The second paragraph combines several cities and categories in long sequences, so readers must work out which figures belong together. Linking words such as “Whereas” are repeated and sometimes used where a contrast is not clearly established; for example, the shift from Adelaide’s café figure to Hobart’s instant-coffee figure is abrupt. There is also no clear paragraph break separating an overview from the detailed comparisons. Organise the report into a concise overview and logically grouped details, and use linking expressions only when they clarify the relationship between points.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the survey’s subject, including “bought instant coffee,” “went to a cafe,” and “percentage.” However, the range is limited and several expressions are repetitive or imprecise, such as repeated use of “people” and “percentage of people.” Some word choices and collocations are awkward, including “Least number of people” and “live in Hobart city”; more natural phrasing would be “the lowest proportion” and “residents of Hobart.” Spelling errors such as “reults,” “fiv,” “pecentage,” and “sydeny” are noticeable and reduce accuracy. Build a wider set of precise terms for describing proportions, rankings and comparisons, and proofread spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response communicates its basic meaning, but grammatical control is uneven and the sentence patterns are mostly simple, with some longer sentences that become difficult to manage. Errors include subject–verb agreement in “The chart illustrate” and “percentage … is comparetively high,” as well as missing articles in phrases such as “went to cafe” and “in last 4 weeks.” The sentence beginning “Whereas, least percentage…” is not a complete, well-connected sentence, and punctuation around “whereas” is often faulty. These errors recur and sometimes make relationships between ideas unclear. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles and complete sentence construction, then use a wider range of structures while checking punctuation.
