Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify relevant features, including café visits being highest in most cities and fresh coffee purchases being relatively low; the figures for café visits are generally close to the chart. However, the overview is unclear and inaccurate: fresh coffee was not the lowest category in every city, since instant coffee was lower in Sydney, and café visits were highest in Adelaide only if compared with fresh coffee? In fact, Adelaide’s café figure is below instant coffee. Several comparisons are incomplete, and the response does not report fresh-coffee figures beyond saying two cities were below 35%. The response is also 32 words below the required minimum, limiting the detail and development. Add a clear overview and compare the three categories across all five cities more systematically.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic sequence: an overview is followed by information about instant coffee, café visits and fresh coffee. This gives the reader some organisation, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “In addition” show an attempt to connect points. However, progression is limited because the paragraphs are not clearly separated and each sentence presents figures without explaining how the categories compare. Some links feel mechanical, while the opening sentence is difficult to follow, making the overview’s relationship to the data unclear. Group the information into a clear overview and two comparison paragraphs, and use references such as “this figure” only when their meaning is unmistakable.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “proportion,” “accounted” and “bought instant coffee,” and the reader can generally identify the categories being discussed. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning awkward: “went to cafes for enjoying tea and coffee” and “did not went upto 48%” are examples. Spelling errors such as “Howerver,” “repectively,” “Indivisuals” and “Birsbane” are noticeable. Use standard chart language consistently, such as “the percentage of residents who visited a café,” and check spelling and collocations before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple statements and longer comparative sentences, but the range is limited and errors recur. For example, “People who bought instant coffee in Brisbane, Adelaide and Hobart the percentage was…” lacks a grammatical link between the subject and the percentage. “People in Sydney and Melbourne did not went” uses an incorrect verb form, while “the proportion … was less than 35%” does not clearly match the plural city subjects. Articles and sentence boundaries also need attention, particularly in the opening sentence. Practise building complete clauses with a clear subject and verb, and use past-tense forms consistently when describing what residents did in the previous four weeks.
