Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the three survey activities and give an overview that café visits were generally more common, while fresh-coffee purchases were lower. Several comparisons are also relevant, including the high café figures for Melbourne, Sydney and Hobart and the relatively high instant-coffee figures in Hobart and Brisbane. However, the overview is not fully accurate: fresh coffee was not the lowest activity in every city, since in Sydney its figure was slightly below instant coffee but in other cities the comparison varies, and the claim that it was lower than both categories across all four cities is too broad. Some figures are also misreported, such as Melbourne’s café figure (about 63.5%, not 64% is acceptable as an approximation) and its instant-coffee figure (about 48.5%, rather than 47%). More precise, consistently accurate comparisons would strengthen coverage.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs comparing café visits and coffee purchases. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression within the paragraphs is uneven, and several comparisons are crowded into long sentences. The repeated use of “While” to begin clauses does not always connect the ideas smoothly, and “If we come to” is an informal, mechanical transition. Some references are also unclear, particularly “other two,” which makes the cities being compared harder to identify. Group the figures by activity or by clear high/low patterns, use explicit city names when needed, and vary linking expressions so the comparisons build logically.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “consumers,” and “bought instant coffee,” so the topic is generally clear. There is also some attempt to vary wording rather than repeat “people.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “people buying,” “the coffee and tea,” “costumers,” and “percentages … was at lowest.” “Laid at” is repeatedly used where a more natural reporting verb is needed, and “significantly high” is not a precise description of the figures. These errors make the language less natural and occasionally slow understanding. Focus on accurate collocations for describing data, such as “stood at,” “accounted for,” and “was higher than,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some complex sentence forms, including contrast clauses beginning with “While,” and the main comparisons can usually be understood. However, control is inconsistent, and several sentences contain multiple grammatical problems. For example, “people buying … in last 4 weeks” lacks a correctly formed clause and article use; “the proportion … is considerably high … the the fresh and instant coffee” has faulty sentence construction; and “the Hobart has” and “the Brisbane had” show problems with articles and subject phrasing. There are also agreement and tense inconsistencies, as in “percentages … was,” alongside punctuation issues where clauses are joined awkwardly. Build shorter, complete sentences first, then add contrast clauses with correct subjects and verb forms.
