Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the three measures and make an attempt at an overview, noting that café visits are prominent and that instant coffee is especially popular in Hobart. However, the overview contains a key misreading: fresh coffee was not highest in Sydney (Sydney and Melbourne are higher than the other cities, with Sydney slightly ahead), and instant coffee was highest in Hobart, not simply “famous” there. Several comparisons are incomplete or unclear; for example, the café figure in Sydney is not reported, and the Adelaide comparison is difficult to follow. The response is relevant and includes a number of approximate figures, but the main patterns are only partly and sometimes inaccurately summarised. A clearer overview and more precise comparisons across all five cities would strengthen coverage.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has an introduction, an overview and two body paragraphs, so there is some visible organisation. It also attempts to group information by city and uses linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Furthermore.” However, the progression is not consistently clear: the first body paragraph moves from Sydney to Melbourne, then Brisbane and Adelaide, while the second returns to Adelaide before discussing Hobart. “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” do not signal a clear contrast between these groups. Repeated phrasing such as “the trend” and “was famous” also makes connections between points harder to follow. Grouping cities or measures more systematically, and using more precise referencing, would make the comparison easier to track.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “instant coffee,” and “approximately,” and the reader can generally identify the categories being discussed. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are noticeably inaccurate, sometimes obscuring the intended meaning. For example, “consumption of coffee and tea purchasing” is an awkward description of the chart, while “instant coffee famous in Hobart” and “trend of bought coffee” are not natural ways to report survey results. There are also spelling errors, including “cosumption,” “similiar,” and “aproximately.” Aim for precise reporting verbs and collocations, such as “the proportion who bought” or “the share who visited a café,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including clauses linked with “while” and “which,” but complex constructions are often faulty and errors occur frequently enough to make some comparisons difficult to interpret. Examples include “proportion of purchase fresh coffee was higher,” “the Melbourne was famous for purchase,” and “instant coffee or tea and purchased from cafe was quite similiar.” These show problems with articles, verb forms, agreement and sentence construction. Some sentences also lack a clear grammatical relationship between the figures and the people being described. Practise building accurate comparison patterns, such as “The proportion buying fresh coffee was…” and “In Adelaide, the figures for instant coffee and café visits were…”. More reliable sentence structures would improve clarity.
