Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several important patterns, including café visits being highest in most cities and Hobart having the greatest share of instant-coffee buyers. However, the overview contains a key inaccuracy: Melbourne is not the clear highest for café visits; its figure is about 63.5%, very close to Hobart’s 63%, while Sydney is about 61%. Some comparisons are also misreported: Adelaide’s instant-coffee figure is around 50%, not the second-lowest, and its fresh-coffee figure is about 34.5%, not nearly 50%. The response covers all three categories and includes relevant figures, but these errors and the limited synthesis of city-to-city patterns leave parts of the task unclear. Prioritise accurate overview statements and compare the main highs and lows.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has an opening, an overview and a body paragraph, so the reader can recognise a basic report structure. However, the information does not progress clearly: the body moves from Sydney to Melbourne, Brisbane, Hobart and then back to Adelaide, making comparisons harder to follow. Linking phrases such as “Along with that” and “However” are repeated and sometimes do not show a clear relationship between the facts. The overview also repeats points later without developing a broader comparison. Group the cities or categories more deliberately, and use concise links that signal contrast or similarity. Clearer paragraph organisation and less repetition would make the report easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “accounted,” “proportions,” “purchased,” and “preferred to purchase,” and the reader can generally understand the intended comparisons. However, some word combinations are unnatural or imprecise, especially the repeated phrase “accounted the greatest/least proportions”; use “had the highest/lowest percentages” instead. There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “coffe,” “Sydeny,” “greastest,” “Citiznes,” and “prefferd,” which reduce accuracy. “Citizens” is also repeated where “residents” would sound more natural in a survey report. Aim for precise, varied terms for percentages and check spelling carefully before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and longer sentences, including clauses linked with “however” and “in addition,” and most of the data remains understandable. However, errors recur in sentence construction and grammatical patterns. For example, “Melbourne accounted the greatest proportions” is missing a preposition, while “people who went purchased fresh coffee” combines incompatible verb forms. The opening phrase “the result … of a survey” also has an awkward singular-plural relationship, and punctuation is inconsistent, including a lowercase “just” beginning a new paragraph and a sentence fragment-like transition after “coffee.” Use straightforward sentence patterns accurately, check verb forms and prepositions, and punctuate sentence boundaries consistently.
